After a few free drinks on the airplane and a ham/cheese sandwich for dinner (or was it breakfast?) we arrive in Hong Kong at 7:30 pm local time.
Picking up our bags and going through immigration proceeds smoothly. We change some leftover Euros into Hong Kong dollars and take the convenient train into Hong Kong Central directly from the airport. An efficient twenty minute trip is followed by a taxi ride to Central Park Hotel on Hollywood Road.
This hotel is conveniently located in the midst of the island of Hong Kong, along a walking tour recommended by Lonely Planet. This place advertises itself as a "hip, boutique" hotel. There is a nice light display on the main floor of birds and fish that occasionally escape their confines, and the rooms are nicely equipped, but the "boutique" report apparently refers to the smallness of the rooms.
However, it's a pleasant enough place at a reasonable cost. The view from the hotel window is stunning. Hong Kong reminds me of San Francisco -- many tall buildings built on restricted land surrounded by ocean, a modern city with a lot of hustle and bustle.
We've managed to stay awake for all but an hour or two of rest, so sleep comes without much difficulty. We hope the jet lag will not be severe for us.
